Batana Oil is a thick, nutrient rich oil extracted from the kernels of the American oil palm, Elaeis oleifera, traditionally used by the Miskito people of Honduras for hair and skin care. It is deep reddish brown in color with a distinct nutty aroma and is valued for its high content of essential fatty acids, vitamins A and E, and antioxidants.
English Introduction
Batana Oil, also known by its INCI name Elaeis Oleifera Kernel Oil, is a raw, unrefined botanical oil cold pressed from the kernels of the American oil palm native to Central and South America. The extraction process is labor intensive: the fruit is boiled and pounded to remove the outer shell, the nuts are sun dried and cracked open, and the kernels are cooked to release the oil. The resulting oil is semi solid at room temperature with a rich, buttery texture that melts easily upon contact with skin. It is rich in oleic acid (omega 9) and linoleic acid (omega 6), along with natural tocopherols and tocotrienols (vitamin E compounds) and carotenoids (vitamin A precursors). These components provide deep nourishment, help seal in moisture, and offer antioxidant protection for hair and skin.
How to Use
Due to its thick and occlusive nature, Batana Oil is best suited for dry, coarse, curly, or damaged hair that requires intensive conditioning. A patch test is recommended before first use, particularly for individuals with nut allergies, as it is a tree nut derived product.
- For Hair (Pre Wash Treatment)
Apply generously to dry hair and scalp. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes, a few hours, or overnight for maximum benefit, then shampoo out. For very dry or damaged hair, this can be done once or twice a week. - For Hair (Leave In and Finishing)
Take a very small amount and smooth it over the ends of damp hair to seal in moisture, reduce frizz, and add shine. Use sparingly to avoid weighing hair down. - For Scalp
Massage a small amount directly into the scalp to nourish dry, flaky areas. Leave it on briefly before washing, or use it as an overnight treatment. - For Skin
Warm a small amount between the palms and massage into dry areas such as elbows, knees, and heels. It can also be used as a daily moisturizer for rough or dry skin.
