Clove basil is a perennial subshrub of the Lamiaceae family, with a plant height of 1 to 1.2 m. It is an annual upright herb with a fragrance throughout. The stem is quadrangular, with many branches on the upper part, and the surface is usually purple-green and pubescent. The leaves are opposite, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, with an acute or acuminate tip, a cuneate base, sparsely serrated or entire margins, and glandular dots below.
